Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Thanks, John To be fair to Dorico, the music font is Sebastian (including the braces); and the expression font is of my choosing (but yes, probably should have gone with a different weight). I may not have always changed things for the better. I thought I had taken on board Fred's slurs settings, th...

Dorico slurs and beams
As we all know, one of the best ways to get good engraved results is to copy someone else's good engraved results. I've taken a sample page from Henle's edition of a Mozart Piano Sonata (K.330, 2nd section), and tried to replicate the beaming and slurring in Dorico. Here's the catch -- my prim...

Re: SCORE 3.1 [Looking to Buy]
It was the prospect of all the staff hiding, the titling of each scene, and manual positioning that scared me. Back on track, am I right in thinking that really, SCORE just provided a framework for turning instructions into notation, and it was those instructions where the 'meat' of the work was don...

Re: SCORE 3.1 [Looking to Buy]
It's sort of amazing that we can now (theoretically at least) have an entire opera in a single Dorico file, Nothing theoretical about it. I've done six complete opera scores in Dorico; the first of which started life as 90 or so Finale files, which had sat on my computer for nearly 10 years, while ...

Re: SCORE 3.1 [Looking to Buy]
:???: I stand corrected. "SCORE: Makes Finale look effortless." There's a reason that programmers don't write in Assembler anymore, but use higher-level code that can construct abstract concepts. Computers should be here to save us from tedious repetitive tasks, not to give us more o...

Re: Logistics of writing an opera
From what I can gather, it doesn't seem that Jerry Springer was asked for permission to use his name in Jerry Springer, the Opera.

Re: SCORE 3.1 [Looking to Buy]
I've recently been in contact with a publishing company about doing some engraving work and the owner wants me to try and get SCORE 3.1, as that is what they prefer to use. Software is transitory, like life itself in this mortal realm. Any company whose business relies on software that is legally u...

Re: Old Music Standard
There's a world of Czech composers who would love their names to be in this font. Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček, .... I'd also suggest that the <> glyphs are too large, compared to most other fonts. They are usually just big enough to 'enclose' the x-height. But a really lovely font. Thank you. Well...

Re: [OT] English terminology
Might be better re-phrased in the active voice, instead of the passive:
Each singer is expected to perform short notes accurately.... but the tutti sections should have an improvised feel, etc.

Re: [OT] English terminology
Accurate execution is expected (*) for short notes, particularly in chromatic passages, but is not required in tutti sections, which should have an improvised feel, similar to Eastern (*) religious chant. However, the pivot notes -- with long and accented values -- should be as precise as possible. ...
