Re: Legatos in the vocal music
David, obviously it depends on the composer in question. I find Bach's "angular" vocal lines with many syllables to be nonetheless very idiomatic because he expects each one to be separately articulated. It's the combination of the "Romantic legato" that's never interrupted and i...

Re: Legatos in the vocal music
"molto legato" would fit the bill. Do consider, though, if your consonant structure is really suited to a legato line. One of the major failings of modern composers for voice, in my opinion, is excessive "wordiness" coupled to a jumpy vocal line, which is simply impossible to mak...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released
Very clean, Harpsi. It reminds me of Wiener Urtext scores (in the best possible way)

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?
The dictionary also sometimes hyphenates according to some sort of black magic that bears no resemblance to the actual word etymology or how it's pronounced. So it's not actually standardized, is harder to read in many cases, and is not in accord with practice in other languages. Why slavishly follo...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released
Too much "lift" in the centre of the slurs - they're far too bowed by default.

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?
The font is fine but the staff lines and, particularly, the ledger lines could stand to be significantly thicker. There are some guides on this forum for setting line weight in Finale that I think you'd find useful.

Re: Short Slurs (Octaves)
In general, Dorico's slurs, like Sibelius's, need less "lift" in the middle. Possibly a bit more than John's, to my eyes. Right now even your slurs direct attention too far away from the notes themselves. They should point more closely to the noteheads.

In addition to what has been said above, I also think somewhat of a heavier weight would assist readability.

Re: Music Type Foundry - question
UE - their historical style (such as the examples I have posted around this forum in the past), not their current style.

Re: Music Type Foundry - question
Not Abraham, but I consider the Cadence font to be exactly what you're looking for - bold yet incredibly modern and unobtrusive.
I also have a soft spot for Universal's house style (MTF-Arnold) and think their combination of fonts and design is incredibly modern, but I know some will disagree.
