Re: tied quavers everywhere!

At least in early 20th century English music, the final consonant is "placed" on the quaver. I haven't often seen this when the word ends with a vowel.

That scan was from last year and I'm unsure if I still have a copy of this specific score lying around. I'll check in my university's music library tomorrow to see if I can find a specimen.

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

My issue with these newer programs, as John already pointed out, is that they move too much of the burden for notation onto what can only ever be an imperfect computer. The human eye is always required, even in this day and age, and I worry that adding all this (still imperfect) extra functionality ...

Re: What notation program is this?

Not being able to examine the score 'in vivo', and with a low resolution picture, I don't think it is done with computer. If you look at the microscopic level how the clefs are inconsistently positioned toward the left line, position of 8va on the clefs, and the time signatures different heights on...

I figured they wouldn't know or care about what they'd likely see as a trivial detail, but I'll drop them a call.

What notation program is this?

It seems at first glance that mainstream computer notation has actually gotten worse over time. Look at this beautiful 1991 score for proof: http://i.cubeupload.com/b6O0X3.png This score is obviously computer-engraved, yet its quality is comparable to much of the hand-engraving from the period, and ...

Re: Single note of 5/4

I would still prefer the dotted half tied to the half. This is far too confusing at first glance.

Re: A case for slab serifs in music

I'm curious how heavy you would need the font to be to be able to use it. After all, the regular weight shown here is heavier than the outlined version of Hercules Text used in liuscorne's example above. I was planning on including three weights: Regular, Semibold and Bold, but a Medium weight migh...

Re: A case for slab serifs in music

I especially like the numerals. However, if I were to use this in my own publications, I would need a heavier variant - that being said, the design itself is excellent.

Re: Community creates a textual font

As another specimen that may be suitable (although one that would require digitization), I propose the lyrics font used by Carus in their choral publications through the 1980s and 1990s (the scan I have attached is from a 1997 score). It is condensed, of relatively high weight and low contrast, and ...
