Re: Proofreading suggestions
On a completely different subject, I just noticed the editorial 16th-rests in the Scarbo example above. This is so typical of editors who are like accountants and think that a piano score is like an orchestral score where every voice has to be complete rhythmically. Quite. Very important that the m...

Re: Multi-bar rests
Thank you Fred G. Unn, That's pretty much how I would do it. Sometimes it would be a help though knowing if this or that instrument is sitting next to this or that neighbour.

Re: Multi-bar rests
He also didn't allow long multi-measure rests and always broke them up with non-vocal cues that could actually be heard by the musician involved. As I've probably mentioned too many times, orchestral musicians loved his instrumental parts because they were not taken by surprise by notational odditi...

Re: half-dashed slurs
OK. Good tip. I'll try that myself next time I have a need for it.

Re: half-dashed slurs
I tried using a smart-shape dashed slur and then superimposing a shape-expression solid slur with the right end masked. Apart from being extremely fussy, it only works outside the staff - inside, it will mask staff lines and notes as well - so I gave up. Sorry not to be of any help. Probably a graph...

Re: Ambitus Question
What I'm used to seeing on the title page is an instruction like "...for Soprano" or "...for Mezzo". When it says only "...for Voice", the notated ambitus seems quite logical.

Re: Ambitus Question
Yes: similar notation was used in instrumental parts for multi-bars' rest, until recent times. I never use the traditional notation of multimeasure rests myself, but anyway thanks for the info. (Actually I have known about the old rests, but it took me a few moments to refresh my memory. Old notati...

Re: Ambitus Question
FWIW this is how I notated it (ambitus) in manuscript in 1989 FWIW your notation gives me no problems. You have a lot of information left of the leftmost barline, so there's ample space for the ambiti as well. That they are not preceded by a clef doesn't constitute a problem either. It's all quite ...

Re: Ambitus Question
I'm not that used to older notation, even if I know something of how the music was composed in the old days. So, now at last, I see what you mean with the rests: 4x2 + 1 breve rests! Right?
