Re: [Lilypond] Font sizes

I'm mainly asking because I'm currently developing a SMuFL compliant music font, and I plan to support as many applications as possible, including Lilypond, so I'll be interested to know the nature of all these 'hacks' when the design is ready. Anyway, it sounds like the easiest thing to do would b...

Re: [Lilypond] Font sizes

To me, this is one of Lilypond's strongest points. I wonder, however, if 8 different weights is strictly necessary, and which staff sizes each weight represents. They are designed for 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 23, and 26pt staff-sizes, and other sizes get the closest font size. Whether they are all n...

Re: [Lilypond] Font sizes

Of course you *can* have just one font, but it takes a little hacking. Not much, but it's not terribly obvious how (yes, I know how). The real reason LP doesn't use a single font is because of the lack of cohesion when you have multiple staff sizes on the same page, or just smaller staves. If a font...

Re: Fantastic old scores' simulation + fonts

Well, about the style: your brilliant font is also Henle style, isn't it? So, shell we worry about our effort? It is (as I've said already), but I'd only be concerned if we are dealing with current styles and designs. Historical designs? I don't thank that matters so much. The history of engraving ...

Re: Fantastic old scores' simulation + fonts

Perhaps someone is knowledgeable about the current legal issues regarding fonts, engraving, copyright, patent law, and this should become another thread? Here's my current understanding about the legality of this issue (and, for the record, I'm not accusing Wess of doing anything illegal): If a per...

Re: Fantastic old scores' simulation + fonts

thank you for your contribution and positivity at my huge work on this Henle-like font. No question about the quality of your efforts. I know a lot of work can go into these music fonts, but how does Henle feel about this? I think you know that I do fonts too, even some look-a-likes of older styles...

Re: Lilypond

Personally I am interested in whatever kind of good engraving tool, which produces a good result. However, I have not been engraving my scores for years, and so using Lilypond would imply that a Lilypond engraver does it. But I AM interested in Lilypond and might give a try. You should! It's a fant...

Re: Lilypond

Is a GUI inherently impossible with LilyPond? I think there is Musescore as the alternative. Now, I am not entirely sure how Lilypond relates to Musescore. Is it the main engine for Musescore? No, LilyPond is a fundamentally different software design than MuseScore. There's no reason you couldn't u...

Re: Welcome

I think this is a wonderful idea (thanks for the invitation Fred and OCTO)! I'll put up a post on the LilyPond user list to see if I can pull in anyone else who'd be interested in discussing software-agnostic notation/engraving issues. May this forum be a benefit to all who participate in its conver...
