Re: Use of capitals
In the 18th-century, proper nouns were always capitalized. Capo is a proper noun. I 'reckon' that most scores I've seen use an initial capital for 'absolute' Tempi, e.g. Allegro, Tempo 1° , etc; also for Repeat indications like Da Capo, Fine ; and lower case for most other things, including 'relativ...

Most significantly, for me, is that ARIA Player is now native, which has benefits in other realms...

Golden Age: SMuFL version
Another day, another music font.... I've just completed a SMuFL version of the handwritten font, Golden Age. (I've been in touch with the original creator, Don Rice.) I say 'completed', though I've had a bit of trouble with bounding boxes on Windows, cropping the glyphs, but think I've sorted it out...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Actually, the squish factor for hyphens could go up a bit more to 1/2.
I'm going to post on the Dorico forum, with a 'mini-article' about which of the options are most significant to achieving different results.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Here's a revised Dorico project file that I've recently prepared. It’s a ‘Factory defaults’ file, except for changes to the following Engraving Options: Beams Lyrics > Hyphens Notes > Stems Slurs based on the process I've described at the start of this thread, and the discussions that follow. Using ...

Re: Tertiary beams: a case for widening/thickening?
That looks fine, Ben. The factory needs to issue a recall on that default. In fairness, the factory default for space after dot is 1/2 space; I had it to 0 for some reason. Just using 1/8 was enough to fix it. They are "supposed" to be the width of a notehead, right? I guessed as much. A ...

Re: Tertiary beams: a case for widening/thickening?
Thanks all. I've decreased the length of the stub (down from the factory length of 1 and 5/24th spaces(!) to 7/8), and added some space using Dorico's new setting for 'space after dot', which has the effect of decreasing the angle and evening out the rhythm; all of which means I don't mind them as m...

Re: Tertiary beams: a case for widening/thickening?
Looking at the first example again, you’ll notice there’s an identical pair of notes in the second measure that looks totally fine by comparison. That groups beams seem to have a little more white space between them. Why is that? Because I adjusted it! First pair: default; second bar: increased sep...

Tertiary beams: a case for widening/thickening?
After entering the following phrase, the beaming looked 'a bit wrong' to me on the selected (orange) notes. Screenshot 14.png Is this a candidate for thickening of the beams and/or widening the separation? I made an attempt to widen and re-position, as can be seen in the repeated example in the seco...
