Re: Let's talk Manuscript Paper, Pens and other copying materials
In the 70's and until the early 90's, I used a Pelikan fountain pen, and electric eraser, Aztec transparency paper and a few other minor accoutrements to notate my scores by hand, I still have my Pelikan Graphos, some Z1 nibs and some Aztec ink, although I haven't touched any of this in years. http...

Re: Proofreading suggestions
The Schirmer method explicitly mentions Titles. Perhaps someone could teach that method to the folks at Peters.
Also, all other sources date this 1913 too. Sheesh.

Re: Long instrument names
Is it a crime to abbreviate it to "Bb soprano sax." ? It looks ok and it means I can fit the two bars in system one. Just wanted to point out the Bb is also completely unnecessary here IMO as there is no other transposing variant for Soprano Sax. Obviously the transposition needs to be in...

Re: Double-dotted half note in 7/8
While the double-dotted note may be useful for the reason mentioned by John, it only works for 7/x measures, not for 5/x ones. The following is an attempt to fill out that gap in traditional rhythmic notation: ... "x-ing" a note adds a quarter of its value, x being half a dot. (We might b...

Re: Dvorak Cello Concerto publication
I don't understand the beam angles Henle is using in their new publications. It looks like the max slope for any beam is 1/2 space. Does anyone know someone on staff there? I would be very curious to hear why they have made that decision. It looks quite odd to me.

Re: Trying to find a balance in staff sizes
Unfortunately I am in the EU and A-based paper is so bad for printing music. They manage to do American size but all those I asked to said they need to cut A3 paper for that, such a waste! How easy is it to find B4 paper? At approx 9.8"x13.9" that could be a good starting point. Librarian...

Re: Trying to find a balance in staff sizes
Personally, I think the intended use is one of the main factors in choosing a staff size. Is the ability to be sightread a priority? Is rehearsal time at a premium? Is there enough white space for markings/edits/cuts? Your top example seems too small and too densely spaced to me for an orchestral pa...
