Re: Font feedback
As others have mentioned, you are definitely to be congratulated, Knut! The italic font design looks very nice, but I'm inclined to agree with Fluffeh's assessment about its weight. If possible, I would recommend thinning it down. It just seems unnecessarily too black, like if I had used a "cap...

Re: [Lilypond] Optical spacing
Yes, the optical spacing is automatic, but can be turned on/off at-will. What is programming setting-rule of the optical spacing in LP? LilyPond's optical spacing is governed by a handful of tweakable properties. Normally, spacing is NOT truly proportional, but more generally based on the width of ...

I wonder if the optical spacing in M26 / RH / beat 1 / voice 2 - is done automatically?

Re: [Lilypond] Numerous Questions & Thoughts
While I am sure that LilyPond can do a better job than Finale in some aspects of initial layout, you must be talking about Finale's default output, before one actually does the page layout. I enjoy the laying out the score exactly as I want it, measure by measure, system by system and page by page ...

Re: [puzzle] Two voices in one staff
Now that I actually understand what is wanted, here is my corrected version. FWIW, here's the default LilyPond output: [puzzle] Two voices in one staff - LilyPond default.png I think it does a good job--plenty legible (at least to me)--but I think I have to give my vote to John this time for creati...

Re: SMuFL creation
That is wonderful, Knut. So basically I can open an empty FontForge document, name each glyph and create the symbols I need (clefs, noteheads...). Is that a correct way to do? If you are using FF, I'd open up the latest version of Bravura and copy all the glyphs' foreground layer to the background ...

Re: Steinberg Dorico
The fact that the music just sort of exists on its own and isn't locked into a measure or a grid is great idea I am glad that you are as impressed as I was, Fred. I do sometimes get a little over-excited. :) When he explained what you are describing in the the quote above, I immediately thought: Sc...

Re: Music notation Facebook page
This is misleading -- it doesn't talk about the most important part about notation: QUALITY OF OUTPUT. It doesn't matter if the bandwagon uses Finale or Sibelius. Does it look good? I think you are partially right, but if people really answer the survey based on the original criteria--which do you ...
