Thank you, OCTO. I see too much white space on a Henle page. What do you think?

I just consulted Ross and almost all of the slur examples show tangent rather than vertical centering! (pages 139-143).

Gould on the other hand specifically states that slurs should end at the (vertical) center of note heads when possible and most of the examples show this, but not all where it is possible to do this.

I don't feel that either author is specific enough about slur design and all the various cases that can arise. Does anyone know of a book that is?

I support your opinion strongly.
Perhaps it is matter of their current engraving personalities. They also developed their own software for notation (AFAIK!), and probably they have some house style since 25-30 years back.
I think Henle looses some qualities they had once.

Thanks, OCTO. But the Henle edition I am looking at is from 1955!
Your future book!
I think that we should eventually write a book collectively called "Extreme Measures*. The Notatio Guide to Music Engraving"

Thanks, MJCube! Motet came up with the title "Extraordinary Measures" as a alternate title for Gould's book. I adapted it for ours. Now all we have to do is write it!
