John, the output at so high resolution is not important. SCORE doesn't use fonts at all. Even if you print with an extreme quality laser printer this oddities cannot be seen.

The LilyPond example done by the same engraver appeared superior to me in so many ways.

What are you referring to here? The LilyPond engraver didn't do the SCORE sample...
I am so sorry for this error and apologize to all concerned. I got myself totally confused because the arranger of the piece was the same as the engraver for the SCORE example. In any case, I meant my comments to be about the SCORE font itself rather than the engraving.

If I remember correctly, the person who engraved the SCORE version initiated this contest, confident that SCORE would edge out all competitors.

When it appeared that was not going to be the case, he quickly cancelled the contest.

Hmmm…maybe I should quickly drop out of that hypothetical project over at the other thread, before I get thoroughly trounced by one and all!

More seriously, it would be so much better, as I think was implied by tisimst, that a project of this kind be noncompetitive and aimed only at improving the art of music engraving by computer.

tisimst and OCTO. There is clearly much that I don't understand about SCORE, and I look forward to seeing the program in action again.
