Feature Request Forum at MM

Post by John Ruggero »

At the moment, there is encouraging interaction between users and MakeMusic at their Feature Request Forum.

Robert Patterson has submitted several posts there, for example. It might be a good time for Finale Notat.io members to submit their requests.

Yes, I've had a quick look and it is indeed as you say. I particularly like the MM response to the suggestion for unlinking page number off-set, as this has long been something which has annoyed me.

...I have a very long list what should be improved; I posted many for several years in several topics around the old forum. However, I think that the problem is twofold: MM doesn't listen carefully, and prioritizes side things. Also their leaders changed several times over the time, of course it affects focus of the product.
The other thing is that Finale is built of a very large and complex code, many lines dating from 1980, it is virtually impossible to add things endlessly without breaking the core. Spacing issues, as kerning, is a very clear example, otherwise it would be solved sooner. They need to re-code it again to clean it up, but the question is if it will ever happen.

I am afraid that this Zendesk is a facebook-like posting, our wishes might disappear in endless flow of wishes. Also, the green button "answered" is not "accepted" nor "impelemented".

I might be also wrong, I hope so.

Personally, I lost interest in Finale at this last project. It takes to much time to clean up the score. There are to many workarounds.

OCTO. I am sorry about your previous bad experience and present disillusionment with Finale. Finale is working well for me because of the help received here and the MM forum, and I am going to operate under the assumption that MM is interested in user input until proven wrong. After all, what is the alternative?

I think everything depends on who uses what for what purpose.
Today, I added one extra staff in a very large score. That messed up grouping of other staves, and removed manually adjusted dynamics for several instruments. And who knows what more. My copyist and me are just discovering bad things after one added stave. We have version controll and compare the files at different timestamps and I can confirm that this bad thing occured without our permission.

Finale does things without user's knowledge, and that is the biggest problem.

I can well understand serious problems with complex scores, since one runs into problems even with simple ones. In any case, I have resolved to report my problems to MM as they occur and reinforce comments from others about their issues. If everyone would do this, it might have an effect.

Those are great requests, odod. I have often wished for a zoomable Text Expression Designer window!
