Software tips?

Post by hautbois baryton »

So I finally upgraded (?) to Finale 26.2. Every time I get a new version of Finale I create an updated Document Style that contains all the fonts, shapes, settings, etc. that I prefer.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do this without laboriously checking every setting?

Surely you just copy the old file to the new location? At worst, you save and load a Library containing all the relevant options.

When I get a new version of Finale (which at the present rate of improvement, may never happen again) I go to User library>Application Support>MakeMusic>Finale (say 2012)>Music Files>Templates and make copies of the various templates that I have created containing all my settings. Then I move these copies to the new Template file that appears under: User library>Application Support>MakeMusic>Finale (26 or whatever they call it) >Music Files>Templates and all is well.

However, some experts at the Finale boards have suggested that making such copies can lead to problems over time, although I have never had any.

So if you want to create a brand new file or files from scratch and somehow migrate your old settings to it automatically, I have no idea how you would do that, although I have been using TG Tools to migrate my articulation metatools successfully and wonder if other settings might be possible that way.

If memory serves, that was true of the old .mus format, but is no longer the case. If you do want to copy settings to a new file, Libraries is the way to do it.
