Re: Finale Maestro Wide font discontinued

I'd be happy to knock up a "Finale Maestro Wide" font. There's a bit more to it than just copying in the glyphs, as the metadata for stem connections, etc, needs to be adjusted. Dorico offers a variety alternate notehead sets that can be selected in the app, and this includes Default and L...

Re: Beams and staff lines.

There have been some new Engraving Options in v4 to improve beaming in various situations. There's also also a lengthy thread here and on the Dorico forum about how to get the best from all the Options. https://forums.steinberg.net/t/mini-article-configuring-beams-slurs-and-hyphens/766380 I got the ...

Re: "On Making Music With Heartbeats"

"The characteristic syncopated rhythms of premature contractions can be found in composed music, such as that of Beethoven. Because of this striking similarity, cardiologists Luderitz, Cheng, and more recently Goldberger et al. amongst others, have speculated that Beethoven may have suffered fr...

Re: Mystery of the Repeat in K 311.2

What about after bar 8?

I see the first edition has dispensed with the staccato marks, too.

Re: Steep slurs

I think we've discussed similar things before**, and the suggestion was made to 'reduce the angle' -- e.g. leave the slur end on the inner note floating a bit. It may be entirely personal preference, but I find the 'verticality' of the last bar of A and B to be difficult to look at. In your Chopin e...

Re: Use of capitals

It's not actually a proper noun, but a common noun, right? You know -- a namey thing! While nouns were freely capitalized in English-speaking countries in the 18th century and earlier, and are always capitalized in German, I am not sure this was the case in Italy. Perhaps an overly-broad generaliza...

Re: Use of capitals

In the 18th-century, proper nouns were always capitalized. Capo is a proper noun. I 'reckon' that most scores I've seen use an initial capital for 'absolute' Tempi, e.g. Allegro, Tempo 1° , etc; also for Repeat indications like Da Capo, Fine ; and lower case for most other things, including 'relativ...
