Re: Xenakis
A question : regarding Xenakis, isn't it better to start engraving from the layout point of view rather first to enter all the notes and then to move it around? If possibility permitting, I would discuss with the editor/publisher what they want and after that I would look at all pieces together, cal...

Re: Xenakis
Peter, what are the musical fonts?
I see multiple different fonts. I am not sure if they fit each other.
Accidentals look like SCORE, Maestro clefs, Maestro Wide or so noteheads... Flags?

Modern French ties?
Any thoughts on the modern french ties, found in Messiaen and Boulez, for instance? Screen shot 2016-01-25 at 7.05.44 AM.png At the first look, I didn't like them. Sometimes the visual distance is to huge, and it is hard to understand how long a note should be kept. You get surprised seeing one note...

Re: A Test
I agree with Knut; however, particularly in older baroque manuscripts one can find out numerous examples of that kind of beaming. Here is lacking the clear beat "mapping". John is correct that in this example the opposite stems would visually break the phrase, but I want to add that becaus...

Re: A Test
My pure visual experience tells me this:
I like C, but why is slur above?
A - unaccepted.
Somehow E is fine as well.
The currently correct one is D.
I vote for C, but some tweaking with the slur and beams:

Re: RE: Re: Engravers vs Composers: Stem Direction 2
Here is another example from the third movement, now in the RH. Why? Possibly because the RH represents, in orchestral terms, a full and "solid" seven note downbeat chord articulated by a kind of down and up shimmering aftershock. The uniformity of stemming gives more the impression of su...
