Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer

Justin Tokke, who has been the Senior Designer of Sibelius at Avid for the past few years, posted today on Facebook that he has been laid off, that his "position was eliminated". Although I moved to Dorico years ago, I had started to feel like the Sibelius ship had been righted by Justin, ...

Re: The End of FINALE

I understand that the code was a mess, and that the move to Colorado cost MM some people who understood the architecture. But would a total rewrite actually have been impossible? It it would serve thousands of users, many professional, some with decades of files, who would be willing to pay for an ...

Re: The End of FINALE

I would suggest MM to remove all licensing, and make the software open-source, someone might just keep it running. _Very_ good idea. It is very highly unlikely this will be open sourced. Most likely they licensed a fair bit of third party code and used it in Finale, which was apparently quite commo...

Re: Finale ceases development

There doesn't appear to be a file that corresponds with /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/.regdata27.txt on Windows that I can see. I would expect to find it in c:\ProgramData\MakeMusic folder on Windows. There is a demdata.txt in the "C:\ProgramData\MakeMusic\Finale 27" folder but I'...

Re: Dorico 3.5.10 released

ThnX tisimst To clarify further, Finale does not yet have full SMuFL support. As a result, Bravura needed certain modifications in order to work in Finale. Assuming that Finale does implement full SMuFL support at a later date, Aruvarb should become irrelevant (except for users of older versions of...

Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?

His examples strikingly reminds me of Finale, I don't know why. It seems that the objects and lines are manually positioned very frequently with a great chance to get misplaced. I think this is what made Sibelius to take over Finale, and finally Dorico will take over Sibelius. Yes, I think this is ...

Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?

The NoteAbility Pro developer is my thesis supervisor :) He is actually at least partially switching to Dorico for his own work, but is continuing NAP development due to the existing user base that relies on it. NAP is very good software, but I am a Windows user. You can probably get better examples...

Re: Tantacrul Dorico video

From the MuseScore 4 preview announcement: Tantacrul.PNG Although Tantacrul is clear in his reply to that comment regarding what he actually meant, I think some people will misread Tantacrul's video, like the user in the attached image, as "Tantacrul trashed Dorico, it is nothing to bother with...

Re: Finale 26.3

I agree, it would have been better for them to create a new app from scratch. If they had done that in 2010, things might be very different now. But when they are looking at the bottom line, I'm sure they are considering what is cheaper and less risky for them to do, and has greater profit margins i...
