Another vote for the first version. The second version may cause a reader to incorrectly perceive an eighth note because of the single beam. (I am assuming the meter is 4/4.)

I agree with those above that the staccatos should default to the notehead side, centered on the notehead. When they must fall on the stem side, I prefer narrow articulations, like staccato and staccatissimo, centered on the stem. Wider articulations are centered on the notehead, but I find that nar...

I used Finale from version 3, on a Windows 3.1 machine, waaaaay back when, and have been a constant user until I finally switched to Dorico.
