For the record, the Maestro Wide noteheads are at uniF600 to F604 in Finale Maestro. The crotchet note there is 343 font units**, compared to 318. The minim is 353, compared to 328.

(Divide by 250 to get spaces.)
This post is so much geeky goodness. :)

Re: Encore back from the dead

It seems like many people are aware that the available notation software isn't meeting everyone's needs. I doubt that any software (of any kind) meets everyone's needs. There's a balance between the needs it fulfils, and the needs it doesn't. I may be willing to forgive a rare failing, if my daily ...

Re: Encore back from the dead

Wow, that's interesting. It seems like many people are aware that the available notation software isn't meeting everyone's needs. However, I agree with you that there is a question of where the market is for most of these programs. Those seeking fully-featured, professional tools and willing to pay ...

Re: How much to pay a proofreader?

Maybe people only use proofreaders on union gigs? I can’t reallly seem to find anyone out there doing freelance proofreading. I know Joan Kane or a big copy house will have their own proofreaders, was just wondering what freelancer actually charges. Also I know musicians and composers here in LA, b...

Re: How much to pay a proofreader?

In NYC the Local 802 AFM rates for proofreading mostly range from $40-$48 depending on contract/agreement. (Jingles and Pay TV are a bit less than that range) Plus, as JJP mentioned, the required heath and pension contributions are additional expenses for the client. To be clear, film is negotiated...

Re: How much to pay a proofreader?

In the USA, the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) negotiates minimum rates with film studios for proofreaders on films. Proofreaders are paid hourly under AFM agreements. (You don't want a proofreader rushing to get paid for more pages.) There is a standard rate, and then reduced rates for low-...

Re: Finale 27.3: plug-ins

Hear hear! Though I suspect that simply including the plugins was the most expedient and cost-effective way to get them in the program. I don't endorse that approach, but I understand if that's the case.

Re: solo to tutti question

(now dammit, if I could find a way to notate that darned viola part so it fits into 3 pages, like all the other parts... it keeps wanting to bleed into a 4th page.) If it bleeds to 4 pages, but there is a place for a nice page turn, let it be 4 pages. Rehearsal time is expensive; an extra page is n...
