Re: Dorico 4.2 released

It's true that there has been a lot of focus on the Key Editor in Dorico 4, but as I pointed out on the Dorico forum yesterday, there have been plenty of engraving-focused improvements both in Dorico 4.0 and in the six updates that have been released since January this year. https://forums.steinberg...

Re: Music Pubisher Software

No, so far as I know Henle have not yet originated any publication using Dorico. In any case they certainly wouldn't be held back by the fact that their software tools of choice don't support "tucking" of accidentals on one rhythmic position above or below an adjacent one – they would simp...

Re: Music Pubisher Software

I find that a bit unlikely, John. I've met Henle's two Finale engravers, and I can tell you that more than any other Finale users I've ever met, they use Finale as closely as they can like the proverbial metal engraving plate. No detail is left unchanged, and I'm certain that they spend more time pe...

Re: Music Pubisher Software

Very few publishers use only one tool, because very few publishers rely entirely on in-house engravers or otherwise mandate the use of specific software. Some publishers do have a strong preference, certainly: Henle, for example, use Finale, Amadeus and Sibelius (and I challenge you to work out whic...

Re: Dorico cross-grade promotion

No, we only just released Dorico 3.5 in May 2020. A new version is not imminent.

Re: Future of notation software

IMO, Dorico has done a poor job supporting that market so I'm not sure that's where they are going to make $. Most jazz musicians have never even heard of it and V1.0 couldn't even do a lead sheet. ...because it lacked support for chord symbols. But version 1.1, which was released in June 2017 as a...

Re: Annual Notation Software Survey

Chester Music in the UK have published a piano concerto by Cheryl Frances-Hoad in Dorico, and another new work (a choral piece) will shortly be published using Dorico. Boosey and Hawkes in Berlin have published an opera by Leonard Evers with all performance materials originated in Dorico. The first ...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

John, I'd love to know by what procedure you would produce that fingering in Finale. I wonder whether it would in practice be any less laborious than the steps needed in Dorico, or perhaps it just feels less laborious to you because you are so familiar with how you would achieve it in Finale?

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

John, slur settings are absolutely a matter of taste. Dorico's overall look tends to be more substantial than that of Finale, and I guess you like slurs to end in a very fine point, which is of course easily possible in Dorico. If you want to change the look of slurs, it's the work of a few minutes ...
