Yes
The second page looks much better.
The first page looks like a Professional Composer PDF from the 1980's.

Re: Slurs as phrase marks
I assume you meant "separately tongued". Autocorrect? In my experience string players often ignaore printed bowings (either bowing marks or slurs). If this is an orchestral work then you will need to rely on the conductor's musical sense. Perhaps a footnote in the score might be warranted ...

Re: publishers' "house style" manuals
what I see in common is they look better in SCORE :D I agree with you, but I wonder if that is because only serious engravers still use it. In other words it may be the expertise of the person using the software rather than the software itself. Still, it's amazing that such a great result is accomp...

Re: divisi / non-divisi / unis. question

Once something enters the public domain and is showed upon us through the "benevolent grace" of a library or any other institution, it remains in the public domain for all eternity ------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps in Sweden, but not necessarily in the US. Rem...

Re: Numbering instruments on shared staves
For your first question: Since you use Dorico, why not turn off condensing (manually) for the flutes for those three pages? Then the Flute 2 staff will be hidden (assuming you have "hide empty staves" activated) and the score label will just show Flute 1. For the second situation: I think ...

Re: has anyone ever heard of "Daniels Instrumentation Standard"?
David Daniels was an author of a well-known resource for orchestra librarians titled Orchestra Music. It has gone through many editions over the years and now has an online companion. It lists not only instrumentation, but publisher information and timings, among other things. There is also a helpfu...
