Re: [ANN] Ten Music Notation Programs, second edition

Also the position of some of the rests seems a space too high to me. For example, the eighth rests in m. 2. Have they changed the default behavior? Thanks! I generally try to avoid a rest touching a notehead as it violates my "no collisions" golden rule. I also generally like keeping rest...

Re: [ANN] Ten Music Notation Programs, second edition

FWIW, I guess I would do it like this: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52722276498_a42837476e_o.png I don't see much point in keeping the archaic repeat convention ("et poi la Coda") so I just used the modern one. Horizontal spacing and all beams and ties are my default settings and ar...

Re: Tremolo beaming question

Without thinking about this too much, my gut reaction would be to do it like this:
Image

Innermost and outermost beams have a "legal" position, and there's a smaller gap between the beams than in your version.

Re: [ANN] Ten Music Notation Programs, second edition

Someone named Mansfield bought Graphire and is now selling it for $40. I think there was something on this forum about it. Email address for inquiries would be something at mansfield.com. IIRC it runs on some recent version of Windows; the Mac version runs in the classic OS9 environment, which the ...

Re: [ANN] Ten Music Notation Programs, second edition

and do all of those programs still exist? are they all being actively supported and developed? Encore supposedly has a new version on the way. Their site still states "Fall 2022" though, so we'll see. Graphire Music Press and SCORE are pretty dead, although still have their legacy users. ...

Re: [ANN] Ten Music Notation Programs, second edition

I had forgotten about that comparison. I would be curious to see an updated version, especially to see how a knowledgeable MS4 user would handle it.

Re: MuseScore 4 Beam Angles

Well, Ross himself would never actually “allow” the shallow example due to the stem length. That was just my own example showing the only possible “allowable” attachment points for the beams. Henle may very well use the shallow example if they were to publish this though. Some of the stems just seem...

Re: MuseScore 4 Beam Angles

A few of the examples here are, well, just wrong according to Ross. The primary (bottom in this example) beam only has a few possible positions and hanging out in a space is not one of them. Here's Ross page 121: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52581686750_5aec6dc420_b.jpg Normally, with a singl...

Re: MuseScore 4.0 released

It looks pretty nice! I have sort of been only halfway learning it (most of my students use it) but may actually need to break down and really figure it out. Mixer looks really nice too! I updated an older Ross beaming comparison file with MS4. They've changed a bunch of default beam angle / stem le...

Re: What is this "c. P" symbol?

Musically I've only seen this with metronome markings, and have no idea of the historical accuracy in this case, but is it possible c is an abbreviation for circa? Approximately piano?
