Re: Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer
It's probably worth remembering Avid was bought by the private equity firm STG in 2023 too. It's entirely possible that they have decided that the market can't support two paid notation programs, and Sib isn't worth the development cost. Avid's homepage is currently all about Pro Tools, Wolftech, Av...

Re: Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer
Here’s the link to his post: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ezJPbyKQpEkKe7JF/?mibextid=wwXIfr After a slow period of development, he did get Sibelius moving again, which I think was positive for the notation community no matter what software you use. I’m curious if that direction will continue or ...

Re: Some possible improvements for a piano sheet (original composition)
Why the different approach to grouping in m15 and 31 compared to the 8va version in m33? I prefer the m33 version so I would just use it 8ba in those other two bars, but in any case, I'd be consistent unless you have a specific reason for notating those bars differently.

Re: The End of FINALE
Why did Finale, announcing its sunset, go so far as to recommend Dorico rather than Musescore? MakeMusic didn't go out of business, they just discontinued Finale. MM's endorsement and steering of their user base to another product certainly was valuable and I'm sure their accountants could estimate...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Wow, very cool! I was never sophisticated enough at SCORE to have gotten into all the details of this, but I know my project manager used the BEAM subroutine, as well as a few others Tom made. Nice trip down memory lane!

Re: A question about MuseScore that I saw brought up
Well, Ultimate Guitar was certainly originally Russian. They even famously argued that their "site violated no laws because its headquarters were in Russia, and the site’s practices complied with Russian laws." https://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/21/technology/21ecom.html Ultimate Guitar purch...

Re: Dorico 5.1.60 update!
I have an 88 key keyboard at home, so it's not an issue there, it was just the incongruity of being able to enter what I see for every instrument, unless it was an octave transposing instrument, and then I needed to transpose. Entering at transposed pitch should be transposed pitch for all.

Re: Some possible improvements for a piano sheet (original composition)
A few stream of consciousness comments ... There are several standard conventions regarding fonts that you aren't adhering to. Tempo indications are typically a bold Roman font. Dynamic text indications like cresc., dim., etc. are usually an italic Roman font. The systemic bar numbers are usually an...

Re: Notations 21
I finally found a copy of this with some minor cover damage for a non-ridiculous price. It is a very cool book! Neither are in collectable condition, but I now have the Notations / Notations 21 set!

Re: Dorico 5.1.60 update!
Yeah, the octave thing had been one of my gripes for years. It always seemed completely inconsistent that I could enter an instrument that transposes at a 9th at written pitch, but not one that transposes at an 8th. Really happy to see this option! I already have a 3:2 tuplet shortcut hacked in, so ...
