Re: Leland Smith - Editing and Printing Music by Computer (1973)

Interesting! Looks like MSS basically became SCORE. The parameter structure changed a bit from MSS to SCORE, but SCORE also held all the properties of any element in terms of "P values." Here are the first few parameters in SCORE 3.0.

Re: Notation for bow behind the bridge (cello)?

The Risatti book is not expensive. Lots of cheap copies around $10 on AbeBooks and eBay. It's a pretty useful resource IMO if anyone is interested in picking up a copy.

I just realized that whole Risatti book is available on Archive.org. You have to be logged in to "borrow" it. Here's the link:

Re: Notation for bow behind the bridge (cello)?

The publication date of the Risatti book is 1975, so obviously all the examples he cites are prior to that. 76: Miroglio, Francis. Phases (1968) 32-B: Curran, Alvin S. Thursday Afternoon (1967) 59-B: Kilar, Wojciech. Générique (1964) 9: Benvenuti, Arrigo. Folia (1963) 111-B: Serocki, Kazimierz. Segm...

Re: Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer

It's probably worth remembering Avid was bought by the private equity firm STG in 2023 too. It's entirely possible that they have decided that the market can't support two paid notation programs, and Sib isn't worth the development cost. Avid's homepage is currently all about Pro Tools, Wolftech, Av...

Re: Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer

Here’s the link to his post: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ezJPbyKQpEkKe7JF/?mibextid=wwXIfr After a slow period of development, he did get Sibelius moving again, which I think was positive for the notation community no matter what software you use. I’m curious if that direction will continue or ...

Re: Some possible improvements for a piano sheet (original composition)

Why the different approach to grouping in m15 and 31 compared to the 8va version in m33? I prefer the m33 version so I would just use it 8ba in those other two bars, but in any case, I'd be consistent unless you have a specific reason for notating those bars differently.
