Re: SMuFL font comparision
Interesting! It's been 25 years probably since I thought of this, but for half notes I always just did over, under, over, under, etc. I never learned a three stroke method. Whole notes were the same but I repositioned my hand so it was more like right, left than over, under. I know there was a certa...

Re: SMuFL font comparision
That's probably why half note noteheads are usually written larger than quarter note noteheads in hand writing. I know you were a hand copyist too, did you do one-stroke or two-stroke noteheads? I was taught two-stroke so that's what I always did. The half notes were obviously a little bigger as th...

SMuFL font comparision
I posted this over in the Dorico forum, but figured I'd cross-post here too since it's not specific to Dorico. I had a ton of time to kill at a swim meet this weekend so ended up doing a little glyph comparison using common SMuFL fonts. All of the following are freely available except for November 2...

Re: How much to pay a proofreader?
In NYC the Local 802 AFM rates for proofreading mostly range from $40-$48 depending on contract/agreement. (Jingles and Pay TV are a bit less than that range) Plus, as JJP mentioned, the required heath and pension contributions are additional expenses for the client.

Re: Flat beam question
Both Ross (pg 115-117) and Gould (pg 22-24) are prescribing a flat beam if the the Ab is a G#, and that still makes sense to me, but it's the enharmonic factor that throws me off. I think I'm fine with the top example I posted, but with a G# I'd definitely prefer a horizontal beam here.

Re: Flat beam question
Thanks! If the last two notes of the first bar were reversed, A natural to Ab, it wouldn't have even occurred to me to change it, and if I spelled the Ab as G# then of course it would be flat as the shape is concave. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52061696347_4ca6a09f85_c.jpg This one just sort...

Flat beam question
There was a recent thread on the Dorico forum about flat beams so I guess they were on my mind when I stumbled upon this example today while writing some patterns for a student. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52062599921_60447bf43b_c.jpg Seems pretty straightforward, but the fact that the line ...
