Re: My fonts in Brahms

For me, G. Schirmer (plate engraved) has the warmest appearance of any publisher and are some of the most beautiful ever produced. But most of the editions they offered were non-authentic and this has given them a bad rep. But now that musicians have direct access to primary sources and can make the...

Re: There is plenty of room to improve Finale - kerning

+1 OCTO. It is really disgraceful that Finale cannot handle something like this after all of these years. [/quote] I am not wild about the Dorico's default beam placement either, which seems to be based on centering the beams between the staves. Would it make a difference if you moved the staves clo...

The "famous" was tongue-in-cheek. It is known only to the members of this forum. An account of creating this clef is at: viewtopic.php?t=84

Re: Composers vs Engravers: stem direction 3

Here are the ways that four editors of the past handled the pickup notes of the Chopin Etude op. 10 no. 4. It is clear that all were disturbed by the notation of the original edition and felt that it needed modification. Two opt for downward stems on the pickup notes, possibly without knowledge of t...

Re: Composers vs Engravers: stem direction 3

I love this MS example, which I first saw (recopied) in a column by Douglas Hofstadter. Notice how the whole notes in the LH are all centered in the bars! Of course no editor would copy it that way because it is non-standard and a bit harder to read, but I think it’s a very informative detail about...

Wow! That made my day!

Maybe I should call this "font" "Notat.io Goulash."

Re: Note spacing - voice collision in Dorico et al.?

And I agree with both of you. I didn't look carefully enough last night. The seconds themselves are well-spaced but the 16ths that follow are not, which becomes even more apparent in the second example.

Re: Note spacing - voice collision in Dorico et al.?

SCORE does a fine job with the seconds, but IMO, the top one would be improved by moving the second and fourth eighth notes slightly to the left to even out the 1/8ths as discussed previously. The bottom one is fine.

I knew exactly what you meant, tisimst. Thank you so much; that compliment means a lot to me. And it is reassuring that you think that it looks good all together.

I forgot to say that the brace settings are by Wess.
