Re: Finale 27 Fonts going bonkers

The solution from MakeMusic is to install the missing Times font. The following source was suggested and it worked:

Re: SMuFL font comparision

I got into hand copying by transposing parts of big band arrangements for my father's accordion band when I was young. Then my own compositions. I knew the name Paul Jeffrey but not much more. Maybe I heard a jazz concert of his at Duke. Then I copied to support myself when I was at Juilliard, but I...

Re: SMuFL font comparision

I make my hand-written half notes with three strokes. The first one outlines the outer oval shape. Then I add two lines to create a shaded oval within, such as one sees in engraved music. The same is true of whole notes, but the outer oval is larger and the inner oval goes in the opposite direction ...

Re: Finale 27 Fonts going bonkers

Thanks, Ben. I will report it to MM. My only concern is that text blocks and Shape Expressions that use the work-around may require font changes later if and when this is corrected.

Re: SMuFL font comparision

The thing that sticks out to me the most is the appearance of the relative size of the half notehead versus the quarter notehead. Even though I know some half noteheads are exactly the same size as the quarter notehead, they all feel smaller, which doesn’t seem right to me. It’s an unusual circumst...

Re: Finale 27 Fonts going bonkers

Hi, David. I just did what you are thinking about doing, and it is working well. Much faster all around. This is the first problem I've encountered and one can work around it. But it is very strange issue and also strange that no else seems to have experienced it or wants to comment.

Finale 27 Fonts going bonkers

Times and Times New Roman text styles are going bonkers in the Shape Designer and Text Tool. Only Times Regular (which is marked as missing) is correct. Times italics through TNR bold italics are messed up. One example: TNR Regular.png Is this a known issue with Finale 27 and Mac OS 12? The fonts ar...

Re: Right to left music

Hi John, The flipped dots on the bass clef in the original don't make sense, since the dots represent the two cross bars on the letter F, which are on the right side of the symbol and they aren't showing either clef in mirror image. Yes, but it is the traditional way to use the F clef for Arabic --...

Re: Slurs and ties coinciding

I believe that it is standard practice for the ends of the tie to move away from the center of the note heads when there are articulations involved, such as the ones you illustrated, or when there is tight spacing between the note heads to avoid too much arch to the tie. Elaine Gould has a good pres...
