Re: The End of FINALE

Well that makes two of us, JJP. The idea of being tethered to a device sounds like something out of hell to me. The robo-calls are bad enough.

Re: The Palmer Method

Beautiful script. Ledgers of the most mundane kind were works of art. I learned to hold a pencil as you do, but applied too much downward pressure against my third finger. Arnstein spotted this while I was copying music and the resulting bump, and gave me a good lecture. My wife said that as they wr...

I too had to buy another computer, a mini, when I switched to Dorico last year, so now I have three minis, two with older operating systems and all three with Finale on them. Hoping that will hold me in the archive area. I use a little flip ...

Beethoven’s notational brilliance

The following passage occurs at the end of the first movement of Beethoven’s piano sonata op. 101: op 101.1 MS.png "What’s up" with the down-stem on the high E? Plenty of room up there for an up-stemmed note. Here is the first edition which, as usual, follows the original notation: op 101....

Re: Staccato on stem side alignment

It is an interesting question since there are two implied voices in the right hand. Contemporary practice would adhere to OCTO's suggestion. In earlier times, some composers might have had a different take on it. Similar questions come up with regard to slurs. Earlier composers often put slurs on th...

I haven't ever seen this either, Neera, and think your guess is a good one. OCTO, I seem to recall you posting another similar marking several years ago, perhaps from the same source or composer?
