Re: Indicating voice types?

A bit of an up-date: I asked this same question on Twitter. A composer colleague felt my fach for Siduri might have “too many contradictory definitions,” although he went on to add that “soprano fach can be very hard to pin down - every voice being wonderfully individual.” After I added a descriptio...

Does this mildly non-standard Fach for two of the named roles (Siduri and Utnapishtim) look potentially helpful or not?

Re: Notating to encourage rubato.

David, I am always amused how you create very nice and balanced scores just using all default fonts and almost the default settings. Not sure how, but I guess your great experience with hand-engraving is why your, yet simple, decisions make it look good. Thank you OCTO. The Finale default rolled ar...

Re: Notating to encourage rubato.

… A few accel.'s and rit's., feathered beaming, small notes, and/or more complex tuplets would help the player know more clearly what you want. That might be too precise as it was more a waywardness of the moment that I had in mind. Anyway, it sounds OK as played on the recording, although some var...

If you look at the screenshot you'll see that the opening sax solo of this 2 minute miniature is marked with rubato . If you listen to this recording https://soundcloud.com/decward/dreaming-of-a-distant-love/s-j0BUg played by the excellent Victoria Soames Samek it seems fairly strict. Is the notatio...

Thank you. I'll experiment a little with the horizontal position of ‘jaws.’

Re: An ossia (or oppure) - is this one clear?

Are these solutions OK? Although I'd rather like it if the high G is sung in the first example as well as in the second (about an hour later) it is my original version of the first example that is notated with the full sized notes - the optional high G was an afterthought. In the second case the E s...

Thank you John, what you say makes sense.
