One even finds it with double dots in Mozart's operas. I'd have to search for the specific examples, but, yes, it's a pity that one probably can't get away with it in standard ‘modern’ notation.John Ruggero wrote: ↑08 Aug 2017, 15:22 Here is a wonderful notation that was used by many composers through the end of the 19th century… … …

Re: Case of the Disappearing Slur
I find the hand-adjusted slurs to be much more pleasing and better at depicting the connection between the two notes. I agree. (I'm not sure how often I have encountered this in my own scores, or to what extent I have manually adjusted the result when it has occurred. Oh dear, yet another detail…)

OT, but… (dissonance & consonance in same piece)
This is not a notation problem, but maybe someone on this forum might have something to say about this question I've just posed on Twitter (don't ask…). I find that when contacting people about an opera I wrote without commission (foolish…), I feel compelled to justify and explain passages of extrem...

Re: Notation for bow behind the bridge (cello)?
Thanks. I have the Opus fonts from some years ago (with demo of Sibelius 6), and It looks as though Opus glyph 92 or perhaps better Opus Special glyph 72 might be OK for the half circle (as an articulation? or as an expression?).

Notation for bow behind the bridge (cello)?
Not my usual way of writing, but any advice for notating a brief passage with the cello bow behind the bridge? Gould, on p 408, suggests crossed noteheads at the pitch of the open string the right side of the bridge, plus the direction ‘arco behind the bridge.’ Is this the clearest and simplest nota...

And I've just received a message from SMC saying the Dorico workshop sessions in Glasgow are to be on Thursday 15 not Wed 14 June.dspreadbury wrote: ↑31 May 2017, 22:13 … …and I would encourage anybody who is on the fence about Dorico and is within striking distance of Glasgow to attend one of the sessions.

Re: Forthcoming Dorico update
I see Daniel Spreadbury is due to give workshops in Dorico at the Scottish Music Centre in Glasgow on 14 June. Unfortunately I probably can't be there, but it might have been interesting.

Size of accidentals with grace notes?
If an accidental precedes a grace note, but also applies to normal notes that follow, should it be as much reduced in size as the grace notehead (as in the Finale default), or might it with advantage be somewhat larger? An alternative might be to repeat the accidental as it applies to the normal not...
