Re: Italian question
I wouldn't interpret "ped. sempre" as meaning to hold the sustain pedal until the end. I'm looking at this as a pianist. I WOULD, however, hold it until the end if it said "pedal sempre alla fine". I've come across a few works that required this over the years. however, in my own...

Re: Dorico v Finale advice?
1st piece of advice: absolutely completely forego ANY desire to do any layout work before you have finished entering notes. Dorico, by default, does a very good job laying out material for you. Don't move measures, change page layouts, hide or remove staves, etc... until you have absolutely entered ...

Re: Dorico v Finale advice?
the only thing I see as a "difficulty" for you is that your project involves varied vocal lines. I haven't worked with lyrics yet nor choral or solo lines, but have read that they can be trickier to work with. my first Dorico project was a 20 minute violin concerto. the first week was...di...

Re: "ad lib" harp glissandi
it's doable in Dorico, and making the straight playback gliss line invisible by making it really small works as well.
but it still looks messy to my eye.

"ad lib" harp glissandi
I'm wondering how some of you handle an ad lib harp glissando. generally, it appears that curved lines indicating the general idea of where this gliss. goes seems to be the most standard way of notating it. I'm finding that no engraving program really lets you insert a curvy line that matches well w...

Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico
In Dorico? why the heck didn't someone tell me this when I first brought it up on the Steinberg/Dorico forum? As far as I could tell, if I wanted the ossia for the orchestral basses to show, then I also had to have the ossia for the solo violin show, despite me NOT wanting it to show. In the options...

Re: What does this symbol mean?
in a classical score that would be an abbreviation for something ending in "o".

Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico
I find making ossia measures in Dorico far simpler than in Finale, and also much more stable. my only issue with Dorico's function is that it does not allow one to hide/show per instance ossia measures. it's a bit too "all or nothing". if you want to show ossia measures in the score, it wi...
