these have been somewhat demanding times, and add extra workload to that and it can be overwhelming.
glad to read that you didn't let it get too bad.

Re: Steep slurs
from a completely ignorant engraver who relies on you guys for proper engraving, a comment/question: could it be that the Chopin example above is shifted slightly to the right because of the dotted values?
maybe a published sample of non-dotted values might be more appropriate?

Re: solo to tutti question
no, the situation is not a concerto grosso. the solos are occasional. having them immediately above their section staves, however, makes the score very unclear, as they end up sharing the group bracket for the whole string orchestra and shared barlines with the entire group. This means the conductor...

solo to tutti question
this is maybe an odd question. I have a piece for string orchestra. there are 5 string soloists (all the 1st desks). I've set up the score so that the soloists appear, as in a concerto, at the top of the score, above the string section. I had tried with the soloists immediately above their respectiv...

Re: harmonic diamonds on whole notes
thanks. I'd never seen a score with different diamond shapes for different note values before, so found it odd as well. I think I replaced the diamond for whole notes with a regular diamond, I forget how I went about it. But that weird lop-sided smaller diamond for whole notes makes no sense. Why wo...

harmonic diamonds on whole notes
I'm curious. Dorico uses a completely different diamond for harmonics when over a whole note (it honestly looks like crap). But I'd like to know, why exactly would one need to have a differently shaped diamond over a whole note, compared to, say, a half note or quarter? I understand the horizontal a...

Re: Messiaen score, strange notation
hmmm.
oh well.
I personally found it a bit confusing.
the other way around might have made more sense, but then it would have been confused with actual laisser-vibrer.

Messiaen score, strange notation
I'm reading along with the music as I listen to Messiaen's "L'Ascension". I'm noting lots of strange notation quirks. For example, he seems to always use upside down "Down bow" markings, even when they're above the staff, no divisi, nothing. I'm not seeing any particular reason for this. All the "Up...

Re: O/T bariolage question
Is this a better way to notate my bariolage?
