Re: The End of FINALE
It always seems so odd to me. I refuse to use a laptop simply because the screen is far too small, and I hate the constrained feeling of the tiny flat keyboard. I always upgrade my computer to a powerful desktop, never to a laptop. But then, I work from home, so I never really need to be on the road...

Re: Best design for X noteheads? [contemporary music notation]
I just tend to avoid this type of notation, even if it's relatively standard, for the simple reason that black notes and white notes are hard to tell apart. I go by the adages that "legibility is the absolute goal" and "screw tradition, when it actually adds nothing to comprehension.&...

Re: The End of FINALE
it doesn't matter anymore anyways.
MakeMusic declared that they were changing it so there would be no limit for the authorization.

Re: Clarinet condensing standard
I don't know if it really was an original manuscript, but the Clara Schumann piano concerto "manuscript" score I looked at had absolutely no condensing at all, no flutes, oboes, bassoon, horns, nothing.

Re: The End of FINALE
I was wondering if SmartMusic would also die if Finale went the way of the dodo.

Re: Finale ceases development
I think the underlying thing is, all of these Finale users will still, in the end, have to consider making the change to another engraving/composing platform.
Remaining with Finale will, in the end, only be dragging out the painful and difficult truth of Finale's demise.

Re: The End of FINALE
I mistook "owners of Finale" to be people who own the software, i.e. the users. You were referring to MakeMusic, the developers of Finale. My apologies if I offended you. Apology accepted :) I've added a tiny correction to my post to avoid any future misunderstandings if someone should co...

Re: The End of FINALE
don't misquote me. I explain VERY clearly my thoughts on the situation. I used Finale from version 3, on a Windows 3.1 machine, waaaaay back when, and have been a constant user until I finally switched to Dorico. The problem with MakeMusic and their attitude is exactly as I posted in my above commen...

Re: The End of FINALE
What the owners (developers) of Finale don't seem to understand, and never seemed to have understood, is not that Dorico had a "passionate, dedicated, experienced" team... It's that they actually HAVE customer support. Something which Finale has not had in nearly 20 years. There were no &q...

Re: Slurs as phrase marks
An excellent example of musicians completely ignoring the marked slurs is Samuel Barber's Adagio, from his string quartet. The slurs as printed are physically impossible to play, they are far too long. So basically, you will get completely different bowing from each group performing the work! (I've ...
