this is a long held chord, end of a piece, and I want each string instrument to be repeating up/down bowing individually, without syncing with the other instruments. The idea is to create a sort of "crowd" sound. I have to use as few words as possible, obviously, and I'll be translating it...

Dorico does seem to be able to do all three Gardner Reed versions, though the cherry stem version is slightly graphically different and doesn't seem to offer any options for altering that look.

I have a Samuel Barber score where all instruments that are even remotely in an alto range are in alto clef, for example, the horns. But this is one single score, everything else of his is notated "normally". maybe he was trying something out in that score. I presume the actual horn parts ...

I use an 88 key controller, and prefer that the notes I enter be the ones that are notated.
I dislike using the octave shift button because it's quite far to my left at the end of the keyboard, and I also tend to accidentally leave it shifted to the wrong octave or accidentally pressed.

logically speaking, you cannot "trill" on a single timpani head.
so the consensus is that a slash tremolo notation is more accurate and correctly represents what is being performed on the instrument.
