Re: Art song question regarding author name

It looks good David.
but it's too far from the house style I've adhered to for 30 years.
even my fontispiece pages have a set style/layout.

Re: Art song question regarding author name

here's the end result I went with. I used that example from the Fauré songs as my template. The only difference being that the Fauré score has the text of each song printed on the first page of each song, but being relatively short poems they fit above the first staff of music. The poems in my colle...

Art song question regarding author name

I have a score, a long art song cycle, 7 songs. The subtitle of the work names the poet (ie: 7 songs on poetry of...) I had initially used the pretty standard "lyrics on the left, composer on the right" layout. Space is a BIT tight at the top of each first page. I wanted to include an inci...

Re: First system indents

it looks like our indentations are almost identical. Dorico does, by default, create an indented first system with enough space to permit the longest instrument names. Although I've had a few instances where an instrument name was simply ridiculously long and Dorico refused to budge past a certain p...

Re: First system indents

David Ward I'd like to have seen a bit of the 2nd system to get a better visual representation of the proportion of the indent to the staves. (and a quick question, there's a C in the piano left hand between two C# - 3rd measure beat 1 - but with no cautionary... is it a missing cautionary or a mis...

Re: First system indents

So far, as concerns instrument names, I find that the indent should match the longest instrument name to look ideal. However, I also tend to split instrument names onto two separate lines if the single line result is too ridiculously long. For example: Clarinette basse en Si :f would most of the tim...

Re: First system indents

ouf, depending on the score, that indent could be MASSIVE if there are a lot of instruments!
if one had to make it a perfect square basically no orchestral score would have a first page! LOL

Re: First system indents

ah, yes, but this doesn't have parts. everyone reads from a score (art songs, voice and piano) which is why I was asking. it seems some editions have "voice" and "piano" staff names, while others forego them completely. without a staff name, too large an indent doesn't quite look...

First system indents

So! I'm curious, since I couldn't find (with a cursory search) any reference to it in Gould, is there some preferred industry standard for just how much the first system of a piece indents? In my particular case I'm talking about art songs for voice and piano. I was thinking of not having the staff ...
