Re: First engraving for commentary: Koechlin Choral

Hi mburns, in addition to what John said, maybe proofread once more the markings, I noticed "en cédant un peu" is missing (before a tempo); correct spelling of "sans dureté" (2x); lié instead of liè (if my french serves me right here) also, "Composed 1922" is the only E...

Re: “Vintage Plate”: My new SMuFL Font for Dorico

Hi Nordine, good to see you hard-working as ever!

Can you tell a bit about your goals/inspiration for this font?

The look reminds me of some of the Wiener Urtext Editions.

best regards
Roland

Re: MTF re-release / Discussion of favourite "vintage" engraver music-fonts

Dear Malte, dear Josh, MTF-Cadence (Abraham Lee’s own design?) Isn’t that inspired by LilyPond’s default font Emmentaler? I remember Abraham talking about how there were *some* things about Emmentaler that he didn't like, and that he wanted to bring better balance... and I agree with him. Emmentaler...

Re: MTF re-release / Discussion of favourite "vintage" engraver music-fonts

The reason you like that flag is because it's a completely different font. That second example you gave is not the old style, but a SCORE notehead, flag, and flat. Dear Josh, I commend your keen eye, you’re absolutely right! I originally wanted to post an excerpt from my Lulu vocal score, but when ...

MTF re-release / Discussion of favourite "vintage" engraver music-fonts

Dear members of the forum, With the recent re-release of some MTF music fonts , I figured this would be a good occasion have a discussion of our "go-to" engraver fonts. For those who haven't seen it yet, re-released as SMuFL are the following: MTF-Arnold (UE-style) MTF-Beethoven (Henle-sty...

Re: Best design for X noteheads? [contemporary music notation]

Dear OCTO, sorry for the delay and thanks a lot for your message! Yes, the „sans serif“-look is deliberate (the quarter note X notehead is already sans serif in most X notehead designs) – I find this a fitting contrast to the normal noteheads when the X notehead is used for special techniques and it...

Re: Best design for X noteheads? [contemporary music notation]

Dear Michel, which alternative notation do you then use (e.g. for a string player or pianist knocking on the instrument), normal noteheads on a one line staff? Or something different? Thanks for your message! Dear OCTO, thanks a lot for your example, these noteheads look very fine and clear! Is this...

Best design for X noteheads? [contemporary music notation]

Dear knowledgeable people of this forum, the X notehead is widely used e.g. for special techniques with non-definitive pitch, yet most designs seem to me lacking in one or another aspect (when looking at the different note values). Here is a comparison of some of the styles in Doricos Bravura font: ...
