Re: "Ten Music Notation Programs", including Dorico

The first thing I notice is that the ties seem a little flat.

Re: Nightingale source code

Is Nightingale worth it? Probably not. It's still primarily 'legacy' software that can only be used on old hardware and OSes. The Intel version is by no means a finished release. It's not going to provide anything that MuseScore or Dorico can't do better. There may be some interesting bits of code,...

Nightingale source code

... another one of these nice notation programs like Nightingale that is apparently no longer in development . Should anyone be interested in a little project, or need another notation software option, I notice that the Mac source code for Nightingale is available on github. https://github.com/AMNS...

Re: Score with no dots!

Still waiting for a reply from the publishers: it's Novello. And in the same concert programme, another piece from Novello, dated 2002, by a major 20thC composer, which they published as a hand-written manuscript. I can only assume it's the composer's hand or his amanuensis, because God help them if...

Re: pre-Reviewing Dorico

So, I would like to know if some or all features are possible in Dorico or not. If it is somewhat easier to do, or it is at all possible. As of Dorico v3.1, I'll address the things that can be done. 3. Boxes have to be made using a Text object (which could contain visible or invisible chars), and s...

Re: Future of notation software

But Dorico has an unusually active and responsive development team, and Finale does not. And here is the greatest feature. As "just an ordinary user", I have submitted several bugs in Dorico, to which the response has been "Sorry, this will be fixed in the next update". And it was. I have also subm...

Re: Future of notation software

Finale is very customisable, but there are to many obstacles... So ... there are no boundaries in the Finale in the sense that everything you want can be done but there are some obstacles that make it difficult to finalize some kind of notation? Can you show some simple problems in the Finale and h...

Score with no dots!

At a rehearsal last night, we were presented with a score printed by a large, well-known UK publisher, in which every single dot was missing! Dots on i and j: Missing. Fullstops. Missing. Dots on Dotted notes: Missing. (It's in 3/4.) As the conductor said: most of it is obvious, but we have no way o...

Dorico 3.1.10 update released

As if to hammer home the virtue of an active development team, the Dorico crew have released a 'small' (by their standards) maintenance release, with over 50 bug fixes and small improvements, a little more than one month after their last major release.
