therefore I use the MacOS emulator directly in Windows. Not the best solution but ...
Legally, running MacOS on non-Apple hardware is a breach of the user licence, even in a VM.

Re: If Dorico had Dorico...

They're a bit too variable for me. I'm not wild about the spacing of successive hyphens, either. But I'm sure it can all be defined.

Re: Old notation software

Look at this old thing from 20 years ago. It's amazing how things have changed since then.

If Dorico or Petrucci had Dorico, wouldn’t they use a smaller paper or larger font size?
The original page size is c. 17 x 23 cm, so not much different from B5. But there are music books of that era that were larger than A4.

Re: If Dorico had Dorico...

No, the octave flats in the key signature isn't a mistake: it was common practice in the day; but if I were preparing a modern edition in modern notation (and not this!), then I wouldn't have two B flats in the key signature on every staff and system. I'd display it in the incipit, though. BTW, the ...

Re: If Dorico had Dorico...

It's a font: Goudy Initials. Well, yes, I could have matched the paper size, and staff size, and various other details. I haven't done ligatures, either. Some of the glyphs in my font don't really match. I didn't really plan to make a facsimile, but just a little bit of fun of how to approach that s...

Re: Convention of ending at bottom of page.

I often use this quote: "Just consider for a moment whether you know of any piece of music where a movement finishes short of the end of a line, or the conclusion of the work itself is other than both at the end of a line and the end of a page; this is not accident but design, the design of the musi...

Here's the original Sextus page, for comparison. (I hope I'm not overloading the forum servers) .

Re: LilyPond 2.20.0 release

Yes, LaTeX too. You can't fault it, but it can seem a bit mechanical? I'm nit-picking, of course: I'd rather people produced anodyne but accurate stuff in Lilypond than badly done stuff in Finale. I was asked to create a revised edition of some liturgical music for a well-known fenland University ch...
