Re: Finale: Not dead, just resting

The early months of previous years have usually seen an ‘A’ update to the annual release, bringing more bug fixes and a few additional features, but there seems to be no sign of this in 2019. More than one year since my post, and we're now on Finale 26.2, after 2 minor updates that make a few impro...

Re: Triplet across beat?

I see nothing wrong with C. If you can span the halfway point for syncopation, why not for triplets. As a singer of little brain, it's much more readable that D. Is there a reason you wouldn't do D with just one bracket?

Re: Alternatives to Adobe Creative Cloud

An update to the alternatives to Creative Cloud: Viva Designer version 10.0 has just been released. One of the new features is NATIVE import of InDesign .indd files! The results are not perfect, though improvements are expected in point updates. There are a variety of licenses for the program: Free,...

Re: Creating Editorial Marks in Dorico

There are settings for the position of the accidental; and you can specify the accidental above and below on a turn; but there is not yet a way to give them brackets, though you could use a separate text block for the accidentals+brackets for the time being. Once you've done the first one, it need n...

Re: Creating Editorial Marks in Dorico

Yes, of course using the Jazz ornaments is very much a workaround, though it shows that many problems in Dorico can be resolved by creatively modifying the existing notational elements. I have no doubt that future versions will consign these workarounds to the skip, in the same way that the previous...

There's now a version of StaffPad for iOS. It's probably the leading 'handwriting' input notation app.

Re: Introduction - and questions regarding Figurato

The difference between Figurato and FiguratoB is that one is designed for use above the staff, and one below, so that when you type "75" you get them stacked and aligned correctly. B is for above the staff, because it aligns to the B ottom of the figures. There is comprehensive documentation on the ...

Re: Metrico: Font for metric equations

Metrico seems not to support quarter triplets. The other notes are cut off in display but print and print preview are correct. Perhaps it's not that Metrico does not support triplets, but that Word doesn't support the necessary font ligature types that Metrico uses? From the Compatibility Notes: Me...

Re: The new "Standardization" phobia in music editing

In Pergolesi's MS of his Stabat mater, he's clearly "up against a deadline", and stops drawing slurs and articulations on repeated figures, but it's obvious that they should be performed in the same way. I also see instrumental parts of 18th-century concertante works, where only the Violino concerta...
