Re: How best to notate pp entry of celesta during dying resonance of tam-tam
Thank you OCTO, I think you may be right, I'll give it more thought. At the very least I need to make much shorter any text direction (should I continue to have one) to something like: “Becoming audible as tam-tam resonance fades.”

Up-date. This is how I've done it in the score (the celesta is on the two lowest staves shown in the screenshot).
This is a draft of work-in-progress, not definitive.

Re: Music Preparation Guidelines (from MOLA)
The Major Orchestra Librarians' Association is a US-based organization, and so I presume these guidelines are current for the US. I believe the Scottish Chamber Orchestra has recently actively asked for parts of new music to be plastic coil bound (contrary to the MOLA guidelines). Gould's stave-size...

Re: Should a musical quote be acknowledged in score?
A translation from Strauss's diary in May 1945 (open to different interpretations, of course). “… … the 12-year reign of bestiality, ignorance and un-culture by the greatest criminals came to an end … …” On the topic, thank you for the input. I'll give it further thought, but will most likely, I sus...

Re: Should a musical quote be acknowledged in score?
Thank you OCTO. I've changed the font to non-serif (Helvetica, Oblique Bold), as all other directions are in serif fonts, it looks strikingly different - and I'll show it in the score only.

Should a musical quote be acknowledged in score?
And if so, in what font style (italic, bold etc)? Specifically, I quote the two-phrase diatonic brass figure that is associated with Parsifal in Wagner's eponymous opera. There is an element of irony in this for reasons both personal to myself and theatrical for my piece, but that may be beside the ...

That's what matters.John Ruggero wrote:… … … In short, he did what produced the best results, not what was expedient or dictated by "authorities".

Re: UE Product design Standards
Here's an example of under-cueing from Beethoven's Fidelio (the overture here, but the whole opera is like this for the trombones).
Some of you will already have seen this example from a while ago on the Finale forum. In my experience, it's far from unique.

For comparison, you may be able to get some idea of the UK Musicians' Union's recommended minimum rates somewhere in the ‘Music Preparation’ sub-section of the list found via this link http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/Files/Rates/Songwriting/Arranging-Music-Preparation-Orchestration-Fees although co...

Re: Cautionary percussion clefs: unnecessary?
Thank you OCTO. I'll do my best to follow your advice as to how best to do this. There seem to be things to correct on so many pages of this print of the piece so far – and I have most of Act III still to compose. I have thought of it as a wonderful asset of this computer age that it is practical to...
