Re: Flat slurs

If the software can take it to the next level of making them optically correct, then that makes me happy. What about the current push for "variable" fonts? Do you see any possibility of a variable SMufL font, or is that way too much effort to develop and too complicated for Dorico to supp...

John Ruggero wrote: 18 Feb 2021, 21:24 Thanks, JoshNichols. That's good, because if that is the default size, the default is smaller than anything I've seen, and I would change it. But perhaps you made them smaller to deal with the spacing issues.
Hi John,

I didn't change the default. Everything Abraham is saying is right.

Re: New Musescore font video

I tried to get hold of SCORE year ago. Having now seen how SCORE works on a practical level, I'm glad I never got the chance. It makes Lilypond look user-friendly! He is right about the process: make the shape, then see how it fits on the page. Rinse and Repeat. Then do that 3000 times...! Sp...

Re: Flat slurs

That's much better in Dorico. There are many things I prefer in Dorico, if only it could do all the things I need. The small clef looks too small to me (the curl at the bottom is touching a staff line). Is that the Dorico default size and can it be changed? And can it be moved vertically? There are...

Re: Flat slurs

Yours is similar to what I get in Finale using the same method. One unanticipated problem was the clefs, which have to get out of the way of the slur but are not moveable in Finale since they are not mid-measure. So I had to add them in as expressions. Perhaps the same is true in Dorico: Ravel Exam...

Re: Sebastian SMuFL font

I admire the people who stick with Finale for their ability to tolerate frustration. Love it! I've updated Sebastian v1.01, with various fixes and improvements. It now has the best bracket wings and breves of any font! Unless there are any major problems or glaring issues, then I think it's a prett...

Re: Flat slurs

So, here's my attempt: I first went through note input. I thought that maybe using a compound "s" curve slur might do the trick. initial stage.PNG But, Dorico handles these "s" curves as like two interlinked beziers, leading to problems where I can't adjust one side of the curve ...

Re: Flat slurs

Glad you have become a member, JoshNichols. It would be interesting to hear about your issues doing the Ravel slur in Dorico, and you might communicate that at the Dorico site if you haven't already. I remember someone posting a wild and amusing illustration of what Dorico can do in this area a whi...

benwiggy wrote: 14 Feb 2021, 22:45 One thing you might want to change is the text fonts: I think you've used Plantin? If you want to match the original, I'd use Monotype Modern Bold.
Sorry! I used Minion. I'll check out Monotype Modern Bold.

John Ruggero wrote: 13 Feb 2021, 20:28 You said you had created this font in your OP; but then that it is Abraham Lee's work. Is it a joint effort?
As Abraham said, I had it created. I supplied the specimens, and Abraham did all of the heavy lifting ;)
