Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

I think it's been often said here that Finale's default settings for slurs could also do with some adjustment. (And indeed, I've followed advice here for improving the values.)

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?

Hyphenation should be done to dictionary word divisions, usually split along etymological and phonetic grounds. Consonants should NEVER be placed "where they sound", which is a hideous trend in recent years. Jucio Brennan's hyphenator is not infallible, though it seems to get it right here...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

And the 2.1 update is released today. Many bug fixes and improvements to previous limitations, as well as nice new features in playback and layout. https://www.scoringnotes.com/reviews/dorico-2-1-released/ Another update planned for later in the year, then it'll be Dorico 3 next year. If that is any...

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?

One thing I would say: you can't get it all on one page, so why not use the second a bit more? Increase the distance between the two staves (which will give the different lyric lines room to breathe). Then you'll have four systems on page 1 and 3 on page 2. It would also mean not turning the page fo...

Re: Hand copiedf part from - when?

I think this is from the 1950s. (Stainer & Bell's current address is N3, so that might be some indication.) I've seen similar scores for BBC Singers music from the 50s. It's got to be from a time when it was feasible to print the header and footer with handwritten music.

Re: Typesetting em dashes in lyrics - best solution?

I'm trying to think of another example, where I have seen em dashes used within lyric lines. And I can't come up with a single one. Which may be indicative of something in itself.

Re: New classic typeface

It looks excellent for music use and similar to that used by at least Durand in the past. It does indeed look like a lovely font to accompany music. I'll be interested when the other styles have been made. However, of all the publishers I'd want to emulate, I'm not sure Durand is on the list..... :...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

If I may, I've written a blog for Dorico about the conceptual differences between Finale and Dorico, and it also includes my first 'finished' piece.

Re: How best to show alternative words for singer?

I'd use Italics, or an ossia. Possibly along with a footnote. If I might advise: the EE vowel is certainly harder higher up the voice, without modification. Might you get the desired effect keeping "me" on the lower notes, so "no--w blames me, blames me, blames me, me". As far as...
