Combining a rest

Hi all, Is it correct to show two rests (example B) or is it ok to combine into one rest (Example A)? My Finale default is wanting to combine the rest, so I assume that may be right, but I thought I'd better check here. Gould talks about all this on p163, and I think she'd show 2 rests, if I underst...

Re: Breaking beam

Thank you so much for the replies! They were helpful! Sorry about not giving a context to the question... It was for sax. The tempo is slow. Also the tenuto is intended to indicate a note that is soft-tongued. I am thinking I'll go with example A. I have another very tricky beaming question but I'll...

Which beaming is the more preferable: Example A or B?

Re: How to print a softcover with larger spine

Full credit to you, NeeraWM, for your perseverance! I agree 100% that there are a crazy number of hurdles to jump and many different hats to wear! I am more into concert sheet music rather than pedagogical materials so my marketing tends to be synchronised closely with premiere & performance dat...

Re: How to print a softcover with larger spine

I have been researching this area for a few years and it is great to read your posts on the subject. Things that I have learned so far include: • nearly all my customers are choosing PDF scores over hard copy scores. I suspect that's partly to avoid surface delivery charges. • Sales and Marketing is...

Re: Fermata

Thanks, Octo and John. I wasn't able to find a detailed answer in Gould (p.190), so I have especially appreciated your input!

Cheers,
HP.

Re: Fermata

Dear Octo, Thank you very much for that explanation!
Here is my latest attempt.
Cheerio and thanks,
Hector.
PS: Indeed, the score will serve also as the piano part.

Fermata

Hi again,
The top stave uses a pause on the third dotted quarter beat. Have I used the pauses on the correct rests in the piano part (lower two staves)? I pondered on it today until I confused myself!

Re: Italian question

A related question, if using the words "alla Fine" with a capital "F", does this mean that the composer has to include the word "Fine" at the intended end point?

Re: Italian question

Hi OCTO, I will try to remember that! Anything to save on laser toner!
