Re: What program do TV and film people use?

Just saw this. Everyone I know in the industry uses Finale or Sibelius. Even almost all of the SCORE users I used to know have moved on, mostly to Sibelius since that's mostly what B&H and Schirmers moved to. I did a 9 hr recording session (as performer, not copyist) in NYC last week for an upco...

Re: Mathematical Spirals in Clefs

Just like clefs, Apple's original logo was freehand and while there may (or may not) have been influences of mathematical spirals, the logo as it is constructed now shows quite a lot of influence of the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p5ybAumDsag/TiNjQLA_ixI/AAAAAA...

Re: [ANN] Seven Music Notation Programs

Except for the winged repeats, I much prefer Fred's version, including the standardized D.C. al Coda indication (unless I'm missing the point of the original entirely). Nice work! Thanks Knut! I figured the winged repeats won't be very popular around here, but left them anyway since that's usually ...

Re: [ANN] Seven Music Notation Programs

Ok, assuming I am correct in my above post about the "et poi la Coda" indication, I would much prefer seeing the standard indication that the performer will be used to. I would maybe make a note somewhere mentioning what the historical indication was in the piece originally. Here's probabl...

Re: [ANN] Seven Music Notation Programs

The "D.C. al [sign] et poi la Coda" essentially is D.C. al Coda, but the performer jumps when they reach the [sign], correct? Is there any point in using that archaic phrase other than to be historically accurate? Even one of the copyists was confused and simply put "D.S. al Coda.&quo...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

I just realized Steinberg has started a Dorico forum and Daniel is very active over there. One of his comments is sort of concerning: "2. At the moment, everything is entered assuming concert pitch. I hope we will introduce a toggle to allow you to input music in written pitch, for copying out ...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

I'm not convinced that logically it follows that deal-breakers are made on this kind of issue. You might be right, but it also has me wondering what else is being left out or not possible. The engraving quality of Finale's examples that they have used in ads has traditionally been pretty atrocious,...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

I take your points about the negative consequences of leaving a chord symbol feature out of the initial release, but I highly doubt that this will be a major issue for the professional users that the program is targeted towards. By "professional users" I'm guessing you mean professional c...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

However, Daniel has said that the plan is to include this feature within the 1.x version cycle, and I am eager enough to try the application that I personally don't mind an early release without chord symbols, just as long as it's eventually implemented the 'right' way, and the wait isn't too long....

Steinberg Dorico

Well, the Steinberg notation product finally has a name: Dorico http://blog.steinberg.net/2016/05/meet-dorico-coming-q4-2016/#more-396 http://www.sibeliusblog.com/news/steinberg-announces-dorico-availability-in-q4-2016/ I would love to hear Daniel comment on this, but I was incredibly disappointed t...
