Re: Finale Slur Settings

OCTO., if you are not using the Engraver slur settings at all, then the other settings would seem to be crucial. Are you using the Finale defaults for slur placement and contour? If not, would you want to share your settings? Peter, I guess I have the same question for you. Would you want to share y...

Re: Engraver vs Engraver; Editor vs Editor

Great, MJCube! Three votes for "layer" instead of "voice". But now how do we convince the rest of the musical world? Initial incomplete measures are never included in the measure numbering. With your comment on the centering of the whole note, you have hit upon a subject dear to ...

Re: Beethoven's terminology?

David, I have always thought of an instrumental "sotto voce" to be the equivalent of a stage whisper and a "mezza voce" to be as if talking to oneself rather than projecting outward to the audience in the normal way.

Re: Am I the Only One? Let's Hear It!

Extremely sensitive, cGilmore! It makes me want to play the piece. Just to show you that I was paying attention, I wondered about the big II at the top, since this is a middle section. And the sotto voce, cresc. and sF might be slightly higher. The doppio is lower case in the original. Do you use an...

Re: Engraver vs Engraver; Editor vs Editor

cGIlmore, thanks for pointing out my error concerning the page turn in the original edition, where the piece is laid out on two pairs of facing pages, with one impossible page turn in the middle of the fast section! This was so inconceivable to me and so different from most other editions that it co...

Re: Finale Slur Settings

Peter, thanks you for your settings. It was encouraging to see that they did not differ so much from mine, and that you are using "lifted" rather than "stretched. The greatest difference was in the first two settings. Yours seems to give better results for beamed patterns where a midd...

Re: Finale Slur Settings

Thank you so much, Knut. Those settings are a great improvement and will save me a lot of time. I was amazed at how good the slur looks even when the grace note is extremely close to the principal note.

Re: Engraver vs Engraver; Editor vs Editor

Thank you so much, MJCube and Knut for your comments. It is always feels great when one's reactions are so closely shared by others. MJCube wrote: I find it interesting that in the original edition all accents are placed above chords, while a more recent Russian edition and the new Henle edition pla...
