Re: Meaning of a big slash through a note's stem and beam (contemporary works)
OCTO, I've just tried the wave font and it works perfectly my end (in Finale 2014.5). Just what I need: many thanks.

OCTO what font etc did you use for the wavy line after vib.? I've tried various lines to follow a direction for 'wide slide vibrato' in trombone parts, but I think your example looks a bit better than mine (attached).

Re: Multiple-instrument parts (?)
Speaking as a (one-time) trombonist, I never liked playing from multiple parts and would always try to have them recopied if there was time. Unless you have a compelling reason to do otherwise (which indeed may exist with some pieces), I think it's usually best to avoid multiple wind or brass parts....

Re: [Finale] The most complex orc. score?
Here (if I manage to attach the PDFs successfully) are two utterly different pages from my current large project, which I think illustrate (or at least suggest) some of the problems mentioned above. Note this is a 'composer's fair-copy in Finale,' as I make no claims to be anything approaching a pro...

Re: [Finale] The most complex orc. score?
Initial response, perhaps I'll provide something more detailed and with music examples later. The larger scores I have done in Finale (unlike some of my earlier, and perhaps future pieces) have had mostly fairly traditional notation, so complications have been of scale rather than of notation (the o...

Re: Cueing – Use Cases
I suppose that must be it, although I remember it as being rather more of a disaster at the time that this would suggest.

Re: Cueing – Use Cases
Over reliance on cues for entries does have its hazards. In the 1980s (or thereby) in Siegfried's funeral march before the last scene of Götterdämmerung in one of the world's top opera houses, the timpanist played a little figure a bar early and immediately realized his mistake. However, this was th...

Re: How Much Would You Charge?
Actually, I see the fees from BASCA for 2004 are quite similar to those from the MU for 2008 as provided by tisimst above. Perhaps the competition authority took a little longer before asking the MU not to publish - who knows how these authorities decide to exercise the power that has been granted t...

Re: How Much Would You Charge?
Here is a screenshot of recommended UK commission fees for 2004, which need to be multiplied by 1.43 to account for inflation. Why 2004? For some unfathomable reason, the UK competition authorities decreed that it was anti-competitive for BASCA to continue to publish these figures.
