Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?
None of these apps are doing something you don't want, while many of notation software does exactly that, what you don't want, or what is incorrect. That's because music notation is something that's evolved over hundred of years. New symbols and rules are added, and other symbols exist because they...

Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?
How big are the slices? If I wanted a 34-foot high clef, would it be possible to set the slice size to be small enough? Having written quite a few tools for manipulating SCORE files, and therefore being pretty familiar with a lot of the internal workings, I did make a start on a sort of desktop clon...

Re: Floating Slurs cause some bubble-trouble
These are Dorico's relevant defaults. (There may be others...!) I suspect that the first bar or so of Clarinet has been manually adjusted.

Re: SCORE-based fonts
There has been some discussion, and should be implemented as part of the SMuFL standard, a font property related to a “size”. I wouldn’t expect any software to support this properly anytime soon since it’s an enormous undertaking creating even one font let alone multiple optical sizes and there’s r...

Re: SCORE-based fonts
I remember reading an interview with one of the Adobe type designers - probably Robert Slimbach - who was expressing disappointment that software (such as InDesign) didn't auto-select the appropriate optical size. Apparently, that was the original plan. It occurred to me that as old Type 1 fonts had...

Re: SCORE-based fonts
I think they say that Leland is 'inspired by', but not an exact copy. (In the same way that Hollywood films are often 'based on' historical events. )

Re: Comparison of music text fonts
No. 1 is the most "Traditional Modern" . But it could possibly be a bit heavier. 3 is second favourite. Again ,very much like classical engraving punch type.
No.4 is a kind of hybrid of the two.
What are they?

Re: Creating a SMuFL font
Nice tip! It's actually fairly easy to overwrite the OTF and relaunch Dorico with my test project. But that will be quicker. I'm going to add some more notehead types, now the noteheads are settled, and tidy up the ASCII end for Finale users. Then I'll release a 'beta' version for anyone who wants t...

Re: Creating a SMuFL font
I'm glad you like the dynamics! Re the noteheads: Yes, that's bad. 1 space is 250 pt (in font apps), so Bravura's noteheads are +/- 125pt from zero. The Sebastian originals are +/- 147, which is quite a bit bigger, and that's what you're seeing there. I've aimed for +/- 134, to give a slight 'kiss' ...

Re: Creating a SMuFL font
Florian created Sebastian, and I started working on a SMuFL version during a rainy holiday in September. We've been discussing it together. I have adjusted some things: the note flags and flag rests, particularly. Florian created a lot of variations: I've selected what I think are the best. I assemb...
