Re: Page numbering
As with text books, it's very common for prefatory pages "not to count", and to have their own numbering in roman numerals. My Baerenreiter and Ricordi scores both do this. I have an Edition Peters Christmas Oratorio that starts the music on page 5. If you're assembling prelims from DTP so...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
One related topic is Dorico's default options for hyphens. I think I get a better result with the following settings: Screenshot 9.png Dorico's defaults are 2, 1, 7.5 and 1/5 respectively. The first two options are a bit confusing. The first option, "Minimum Gap", is (it seems to me) the d...

Do you mean this one?

That's the one I was referring to in some of my examples.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Finale does have a Dark mode: but (as with Dorico) it doesn't apply to the actual 'page' itself. White notation on a black page would look very weird. It's just for the menus and dialogs. You can change the background 'paper' colour in Dorico, as with Finale.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
Printed booklets can be very hard to read as white text 'reversed out' of a colour: that's often made worse if the background uses two inks and the register (alignment) is poor. However, on a screen, which is creating light rather than reflecting it, I find white on black much less tiring. Apparentl...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
One other thing:
After loading my options in another document, I've changed the Slants for Narrow Beams to 1/4 for intervals greater than 2nd.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
That's very useful, and explains it perfectly. I can see that Dorico's defaults are designed to even out the shortening: start it earlier, and grade it in. The gap is almost imperceptible; but changing the rules affects all my beaming for the worse! Dorico's results are a synthesis of several differ...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams
The stem length seems to be just as important as the angles themselves. I also suspect the use of the "ideal" in "ideal slant" suggests multiple factors at play. Changing my beam settings to "1/4, 1/4, 1/2, 1/2, 1/2" (up to a 6th) seems to work just as well, and is prob...

Re: Beethoven's Tenth
It sounds like a pastiche imitation of the 5th symphony. I'm reminded of ABBA's recent new album, which I thought sounded exactly like ABBA, almost to the extent that it could have been an AI extrapolation of their back catalogue. Also, "Austrian composer Walter Werzowa, famous for writing Inte...
