It is a plenty of space, and not difficult to read.
My ignorance: what is NE size? I mean, is it the shortening of something?

Re: Dvorak Cello Concerto publication

From the previews available on the website, my very high respect for Henle's engraving practices got a strong hit.
Besides, I am a cellist so that means I have my memory going through all other editions while looking at it.

Re: Rhythm question please

Definitely the second one.
Syncopes are standard rhythm and easily recognisable, besides looking much better than tied notes!

Re: Double-dotted half note in 7/8

While the double-dotted note may be useful for the reason mentioned by John, it only works for 7/x measures, not for 5/x ones. The following is an attempt to fill out that gap in traditional rhythmic notation: x-dots.JPG "x-ing" a note adds a quarter of its value, x being half a dot. (We ...

Re: Trying to find a balance in staff sizes

The engraving is very nice. Thank you! Not too keen on the choice of fonts for the expressions and fingering, however. There are some places in the first example where I would have placed the fingering between the slurs and note heads rather than over the slur. Also extraneous triplet indications (...

Re: Trying to find a balance in staff sizes

Unfortunately I am in the EU and A-based paper is so bad for printing music. They manage to do American size but all those I asked to said they need to cut A3 paper for that, such a waste! Here is a couple of pages from a piece published with an EU-based editor. They are both from Popper's Cello Etu...

Re: Trying to find a balance in staff sizes

Thanks for your feedback! My issue with 7mm+ may not be the sheer size of the staff, rather the way Sibelius manages horizontal spacing when things get tight. At 7mm+, in 4/4, no more than 2 bars of 16th notes will ever fit, sometimes looking very dull. I was fascinated from the Collection Litolff s...

Trying to find a balance in staff sizes

Hello everyone, first post here and thrilled to join the community. While I have been engraving music for a living for 10 years, I have never understood why the suggested staff size for parts in, e.g., MOLA Guides, are so big (7-8.5mm). If we take Henle as a comparison, specifically Bach Gamba Sonat...
