Re: First attempt on "serious engraving"

Ledger lines look fine to me, but I would bump up the staff line thickness a hair (still not as bold as the ledger lines)

Re: swing eighths question

I second John's B solution in this case. An example off the top of my head where his notation is used is the famous last chorus from Bach's Cantata 147 which has exactly the same rhythm you describe (triplet melody against dotted eighth-sixteenth harmony)

Re: Perception of noteheads

A larger version of 2 would be my preference.

Interesting clef inconsistency - any explanations?

In the 1943 string orchestra revision of Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht, published by AMP, there's an interesting inconsistency between the different clefs used that can't be explained by mere ink dispersal. This is most visible in this section, with four distinctly different treble clefs: https://i.g...

Re: Automatic Staff/System Spacing

Very impressed with the results so far, especially in this "age" of rather loosely spaced music. Still some room for improvement, but your plugin seems to compare favourably with the hand-engraved scores I've seen in that regard.

Re: First attempt on "serious engraving"

a set of caprices by Spanish violinist Manuel Quiroga If it was an original manuscript of the composer I would not comment anything, very beautifully. But if you are doing that as an engraver/copyist, both comments above are very good to start with for improvements. If you cannot invest in a notati...

Re: First attempt on "serious engraving"

Welcome to Notat.io! I certainly agree that it's very addictive. The first thing I notice looking at your score is a bit of imbalance between some elements of the score. The noteheads, staccato dots, and stems are pretty dark, but the clef, text, and staff lines are very light. Changing the staff li...

Just goes to show that text - unlike music - is an imperfect medium!

Re: Clutter?

Schonbergian, I didn't mean to target anyone and certainly not you, but I must admit that our interaction on the other thread jogged me into finally posting on a subject that I had been thinking about for a while and needed to get off my chest. Of the clutter, those little periods are certainly not...

Re: Clutter?

As one of those who seems to be targeted by your "period comment", I nonetheless agree that it's pointless. However, as long as the clutter remains outside of the "general reading area", it's aethestic preference rather than readability that determines that choice. In regards to ...
