What particular flexibility are you looking for? There's a large range of brace and bracket options.

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Lots (and lots) of talk about scores, but I've yet to see any part samples coming from this product. Anyone using it care to share? Yes, good idea. People use to say that "the result is wonderful" - what is meant by that? In comparison to Finale or Sibelius. Here's a sample Dorico documen...

Nkoda: subscription streaming for sheet music

I thought I would draw people's attention to this new digital service: pay a subscription, and view ANY content from the catalogues of participating publishers. "Spotify for Sheet Music" I think it's a really interesting development, which ticks all the boxes of giving musicians a huge ran...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

The Dorico staff are well aware of the loathing for the dongle, but their hands are tied by Steinberg's general policy, which covers all the apps in their stable. It's possible that a review will come when progress forces the DRM software/hardware to be revised.

Re: tied quavers everywhere!

Just for the record, here's a source: Henry Mancini recommended this practice in his book "Sounds and Scores" from 1973 where he describes his arranging and orchestration techniques for Hollywood orchestras in the 60s/70s: I was singing a piece of Carter recently, in which he used this ti...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Dorico continues the mantra of "what it does, it does well", though it still lacks much that I need. But given the pace of progress, I'm very keen to spend time on it. All the manual adjustments that I don't have to do, compared to Finale, makes it effortless.

At first glance, the beam stems look too tall.

Isn't it ancient legacy software? The article is from 1986 !

Re: The Critical Editing of Music : History, Method, and Practice

inn 1322 there was a Papal Bull to suppress the semibreve and minim… the latter had been 'invented' (first used?) half a century earlier by Walter Odington . That's interesting. Thomas Morley wrote: "The invention of the minim they ascribe to a certain priest (or who he was I know not) in Nava...

Re: The Critical Editing of Music : History, Method, and Practice

What I am really looking for is something that will cover every element of our system and show its development from first appearance to the present. For example, who invented the staccato dot, how was it first used and positioned, how did various composers use it, how was it engraved by different p...

Re: The Critical Editing of Music : History, Method, and Practice

I have "The Notation of Western Music - An Introduction" by Richard Rastall, (a new digital print of the original 1983 publication). It covers everything from Early Christian neumes up to 1970s avante garde.
