Re: Steinberg Dorico

On a different subject: Daniel mentioned that MusXML transfers into Dorico would strip out manual adjustments a...

Actually, I only use Maestro, Engraver, Wess's italic font, and my own G clefs, so I guess I would only need help with the latter. I ha...

Knut wrote: MakeMusic is evidently in the process of making Maestro SMuFL compliant, but until then, only the native Bravura font and November 2.0 will support Dorico which brings up an interesting possible scenario: at the end of 2016, both Finale 2016, which includes a SMuFL version of Maestro, an...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

I was blown away by the actual demonstrations of D. (or the more euphonious and descriptive "aDorable", as I now prefer to call it), in spite of not being able to make out half of the endless prefaces and explanations. There is now no doubt in my mind that aDorable will become the pre-emin...

Re: Mathematical Spirals in Clefs

As you know, I am in complete sympathy with your sentiments, OCTO. I would like to address one point: Good, its form is 'perfect' - but What is put in that form? What is perfect? IMO, in the greatest music, nothing is put into a preconceived "form"; the form and its contents are the same. ...

Re: Mathematical Spirals in Clefs

Very interesting, Fred. Shades of Bartok.
While clefs may have evolved without much mathematical influence, I think it would be an interesting endeavor to try to create one.
Maybe the OP is doing just that right now!

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

Welcome to this endeavor, buster. It looks very nice and I hope that you will finish it and contribute it to this thread. I am assuming that you would like some comments: 1. One needs to indicate which notes are played by the RH in measures 1-3 etc. Brahms' notation is the standard way of doing this...

Re: Mathematical Spirals in Clefs

Understanding the G clef from an historical perspective can also be helpful. In the early days, there seems to be no attempt at a mathematically designed spiral. It is clearly an intuitive design, with each stage retaining some aspects of previous designs and changing and adding others, very much as...

Re: [Lilypond] Numerous Questions & Thoughts

VaughanM wrote: Where Lilypond really comes into its own is layout. In Finale, the final system contains whatever measures don’t fit, so for pretty much every piece or part, I have to spread out the last few systems to make it look good. While I am sure that LilyPond can do a better job than Finale ...

Re: Steinberg Dorico

I think that it is a shame that this worthy product is being pushed into the marketplace prematurely. There does not seem to be overwhelming urgency among consumers, who have been waiting patiently for it; the impatience is all with the sponsoring company. But if Dorico is good enough, it will proba...
