Re: Hiding a piano part
Thanks, John! Great to get your perspective, and I appreciate the reminder about the page turns! I'm going to try my hardest! PS: Yes in my piece the soloistic sax measures are dense with 32nd and 64th runs. When I was casting off initially, I could only fit one measure per system, but by reducing t...

Hiding a piano part
Hi all, In a score for sax and piano, if the piano doesn't play for three or four systems (while the sax plays soloist-y stuff), is it considered acceptable to hide the piano? I note Gould suggests to retain all staves throughout the score in small ensemble scores (p.522) unless it's for an extensiv...

Henle Open Day – 75 Years
Hi all, Just thought I'd mention Henle's Open Day website; it's accessible for only ten more days, in case anyone here might find it to be of interest. I clicked on the Register button today (it's free) and am enjoying seeing some of the Open Day videos about how they create their publications, edit...

Re: Stem length question
Here is what it looks like with the fractional beam sitting on top of the bottom staff line. The problem with this is that the fractional beam interferes with the bottom stave-line (Gould mentions that there must be one clear stave-line between the innermost beam and the first ledger-line; p.19). Sc...

Stem length question
Hi all, Should I (or should I not) lengthen the stems of the tied notes to match the preceding beam's height? (I should mention that I chose the beam height so as to keep the lower of the fractional beams higher than the bottom staff line). Screen Shot 2023-03-21 at 4.26.47 pm.png Thanks as always! ...

Re: Tremolo beaming question
Thanks, John! Appreciated. I'm 8 pages into the beam-editing of my score now and my beaming looks better for all the attention I'm paying to it and for all the helpful advice I've received here on the forum! Many thanks

Re: Tremolo beaming question
Update: I think I've found another way which avoids a hang at the ascent of beam, and the beam angle is 1.75 spaces which is apparently within the satisfactory range. So, I think I'll proceed with this, unless anyone else suggests better! Screen Shot 2023-03-06 at 2.38.57 pm.png Thanks to all for to...

Re: Tremolo beaming question
Dear Brainstrust, As you might suspect by now, I am attempting to improve my understanding of beaming rules (position / angle) with the Ted Ross book as my main guide. I spent a long time today working this beam out. I still don't think I've quite nailed it..... I'm within the 1.25 – 1.75 beam angle...
